State Master Councilor
Drew Burkhart
Why did you want to be a State Officer? To help better Montana DeMolay in anyway I can, whether it be through helping achieve positive growth or by raising money for events. What ever the task is, I'm up for the challenge.
Why did you want to join DeMolay? Because my older brother Josh was a member and he was the coolest person I knew, so I figured it must be a pretty cool organization. Only after I had joined, I learned what its basic principles were and after that I was hooked.
Who was your biggest role model in DeMolay? I have two, first was my brother Josh and second is J.D. Olsen. Josh brought me into DeMolay right before he took the position of Master Councilor. While he was M.C., I learned very much about how to be a great brother and how up hold my self in and outside the chapter room. J.D. gave me the motivation and the lessons on how to be a great leader within a chapter and even the state. I thank both of them very much, they have helped make me the DeMolay and the man who I am today.
What is your favorite cardinal virtue and why? My favorite virtue is Comradeship. Nothing means more to me in this world then the friends or "Brothers" I have made through out my time in DeMolay. With out them I would be a very lost individual. I would do anything for a member of this great organization and I know the would do the same for me.
What DeMolay means to you? DeMolay means so much to me that I don't even know where to start with this answer. The main thing is I have put so much into DeMolay but, it has given back a 100 times what I have put in to it. But most importantly is its family.
Favorite DeMolay moments? Umm, wow there are a lot of those. Just to name a few: being initiated by my brother Josh, Conclave when I was Master Councilor and we took home ever chapter/team trophy there was, and our most recent Conclave where I received my Chevalier and was installed as State Master Councilor and there were a lot of fun and funny moments at that most recent Conclave that made it my favorite.
What is your goal for DeMolay? I want to improve every aspect I possibly can for Montana DeMolay while having fun at the same time. One of my motto's for this year is "Party hard but work harder!". But my main goals for this year are to make some sort of visitation to every chapter in the state, Improve or relations with our sister organizations and strive for positive growth within the state.

Why did you want to be a State Officer? I wanted to go as far as I could in DeMolay before I had reached my majority. I also wanted to make Montana Demolay bigger, better, and more fun then it has ever as been. I want to help all the chapters during my term.
Why did you want to join DeMolay? My friends told me it was the best thing they have done and they were right. It has kept me out of trouble, it has made me a better person, and it has prepared me for the real life. I owe so much to DeMolay for helping me become a young man.
Who was your biggest role model in DeMolay? My biggest role model is either my cousion Drew, who was the first one who got me interested into DeMolay, or D.A.D. Brian Murphy, he helped me with anything I had trouble with and he was like a second father to me. Both of them I thank so much for getting me to where I am today.
What is your favorite cardinal virtue and why? Commradship! Without brotherhood I would still be at home watching tv instead of being the State Deputy Master Counclior helping out Montana DeMolay. They beleived in me when I thought it was impossible to become a state member and I thank them for that.
What DeMolay means to you? DeMolay means everything to me because without it I dont know where I would be now. It has helped me in so many ways that I could no where else learn what DeMolay tought me. Brotherhood ,Friendship, and becoming a young man. So, I thank myself for joining DeMolay.
Favorite DeMolay moments? This years Conclave when I was elected the State Deputy Master Counclior and I want to add Sweet Retreat because that is just some awesome times.
What is your goal for DeMolay? To become State Master Councilor and have an amazing term. I also want to try and get each chapter to have 10 members or more in it this year.

Why did you want to be a State Officer? I wanted to help other young men benefit from this organization and show them what it means to have brotherhood and friends to rely on.
Why did you want to join DeMolay? Several of my friends were in DeMolay and a few of my older role models brought me to some of the activities and I wanted to have as much fun as them.
Who was your biggest role model in DeMolay? Both D.A.D. Ted Williams and D.A.D. Lance Averett have been great role models. They truly give everything to this organization and I live to be like that every day.
What is your favorite cardinal virtue and why? Filial Love. When I learned about this virtue it truly made me realize how much both my parents sacrifice for my happiness.
What DeMolay means to you? Brotherhood and Ever-lasting friendship.
Favorite DeMolay moments? Gotta be when I went to my second Conclave at Livingston. We had cabins, had Kool-Aid water gun fights, and a dish soap slip n’ slide.
What is your goal for DeMolay? I want to further push forward the leadership aspect of DeMolay and put on some workshops that deal with leadership skills needed throughout life.

Why did you want to be a State Officer? I wanted to be a State Officer because up until this year, I was not in a position where I could make a difference. Now that I am part of the State team, I hope my suggestions and thoughts will be able to positively influence the whole of Montana DeMolay.
Why did you want to join DeMolay? Initially it was my mother, an Eastern Star, who got me to join, and I have not regretted it for a moment. I've heard said many times that you get back 10x what you put into DeMolay, and I hope to put everything I can into it.
Who was your biggest role model in DeMolay? Brother Ethan Schaff. We have known each other for many years through both Boy Scouts and DeMolay. As an Eagle Scout and returning State Officer, I've noticed his commitment and how much he really cares for everything he does. He has always impressed me.
What is your favorite cardinal virtue and why? Filial Love. Everyone has a lot to thank their mother for, but after performing the Flower Talk and thinking about it for a long time, I may have finally started to realize just how much she means to me. Without her, I probably wouldn't even be a DeMolay right now.
What DeMolay means to you? A typical answer you might hear, but one I believe is that DeMolay is brotherhood incarnate. The reason why it is typical is because so many people have reached the same conclusion. Every one of my brothers will tell you that life would not be the same without DeMolay.
Favorite DeMolay moments? All my time as a DeMolay has been amazing, but if I had to pick just one, I would have to say my first Sweet Retreat 4 years ago. I learned so much, had a blast meeting everyone and making friends, and the hot springs were just as amazing then as now.
What is your goal for DeMolay? The one thing I want to see more than anything else is increased attendance at Conclave. I want to see this because that is where DeMolay really happens, and I will be working hard as Master Councilor of my own chapter to see that it happens. We doubled the attendance at Conclave from 2009 to 2010 and I think we can do it again.

Why did you want to be a State Officer? It is quiet simple really, I wanted to help Montana DeMolay. I want to spread the word of an amazing youth organization to those around the state.
Why did you want to join DeMolay? I saw how much fun the organization is. I also joined because I saw that by joining, I would make more friends and have more of a family then I already had.
Who was your biggest role model in DeMolay? Would have to Jacob Whitehead. He was the first guy from outside of the guys I knew from the RCJ chapter. He came up to me and talked to me about how cool and great DeMolay is. From that point on I was hooked on DeMolay.
What is your favorite cardinal virtue and why? Patriotism. I say this because my closest friend, Jason Cox, joined the military back in our senior year. He was the first person I had got into DeMolay and has been and will always be a brother of mine, because I know he may not be in the chapter room but he is fighting for all of us so that we can have the flag of our country in the chapter room. From this he is always with us.
What DeMolay means to you? In a nut shell means brotherhood and family. I have bothers and sisters all around the state so when we gather for events I’m always with family.
Favorite DeMolay moments? My favorite moments in DeMolay would have to be some of the rededications I have seen and then this last year seeing a class of 16 getting their initiation into DeMolay.
What is your goal for DeMolay? To help with communications between all involved with DeMolay this year and from this help with membership.
